The Tarot Cafe

Posted on December 29, 2008January 5, 2009 By sweet surrender 10 Comments on The Tarot Cafe

Remember Two Bananas at Jalan Keretapi after Shell? It’s no longer in operation anymore. Now it’s known as The Tarot Cafe which is honestly far better than Two Bananas.

If you like to go to Bestberry, you will surely will like this place also coz it’s the idea of the same person(just the idea, the person isn’t the owner) who started Bestberry but Bestberry is now under new management.

The Tarot Cafe is air-conditioned(but when we were there during the opening, the air-conditioning units weren’t working) and the wall is uniquely decorated with framed tarot cards.

The menu is big and heavy but packed with lots and lots of nice food and drinks. These two drinks are from The Tarot Drink menu. It’s specially formulated based on each tarot card. The normal menu also has other type of drinks but it’s not as special as The Tarot Drink.

We ordered Strength(RM6.90) and The Fool(RM7.90). The menu has full descriptions of each of the card.

Strenght consist of soda, lemon and mint leaves if not mistaken.

The Fool is very rich! Coconut milk! So sinful and “hot” with lots and lots of longan and also sago. I love this. recommended. If you are on diet don’t go for this or else you will be really a fool for piling up all the fats in your system.

The food we ordered, Tarot Yam Rice(RM4) and Tarot Nyonya Curry Chicken Rice(RM5.50). Portion is big enough. I was so full! Taste wise, I’m not so sure, all I know is that they are edible, nothing much to comment about them.

Great place to hang out with friends as I really love their drinks selections.

What’s so special about this place is that, this is not a cafe only, there’s a Tarot Room if you would like to get your tarot reading or asking about things such as love, finance, life and more. It costs RM30/consultation, appointment is needed, you can call Chris Tan at 016-8648435 or email to tarot_chris[at]gmail[dot]com. She’s a certified tarot card reader and she also provides Feng Shui consultation.

She did demo something to us, it’s about your current financial status. I would say it’s pretty accurate. A piece of money is placed on each palm and if your money luck is good, it will form a “U” shape, the more curve it forms, the better your money luck is. If your right hand’s money forms a very big “U”, means money is coming in to you and if the left hand’s money is also forming the same big “U”, then it means you will spend a lot too.

Right hand means money in, left hand means money out.

You can join as member and get 10% discount everytime you go for consultation and also other benefits.

Of course, if you’re a Christian or Muslim, I wouldn’t recommend you to go for these things.

Anyway, the cafe is something different that you don’t get anywhere else in Kuching.

Koreana

First time go to Koreana at Premier 101. It’s a Korean restaurant. They relocated from opposite Hilton to Premier 101. If not mistaken this is the first Korean restaurant in Kuching. Heard of many good feedback about it.

Our drinks: Beer, green tea, and 100 Plus. Don’t remember the price ;p However, it’s reasonable.

These are the side dishes:

The kimchi wasn’t very spicy.

Kimchi-Chigei Soup(RM17), there’s taufu in there. Portion is quite small. It came with plain rice.

Left: Bi Bim Bub(RM17), don’t judge it from its look, the portion is big! 2-3 persons can share.
Right: Jjolmyun(RM17), first look it looked like belacan beehoon. The noodle is so springy and very hard to chew. Portion was big also. Can share this. Not spicy, it’s sweet but it’s very hard to eat. Each time I chew I felt like vomitting because it’s very hard to chew.

Remember that if you go there, do not order too many because most of the food portion are big.

Red Coliseum

Went to Red Coliseum on the third day of its opening. No one but us. We found out about it after we went to bing! at Premier 101.

The system is the same as Popwave. According to M, there are songs that aren’t available in Popwave and Enter K. As for me, songs that I used to sing aren’t in there. I don’t like the system, very hard to navigate.

Here’s the prices in case you are curious. For the time being no food available yet:
11am-2pm – RM13 + 1 drink
2pm-6pm – RM20 + 2 drink
6pm-8pm – RM17 + 2 drink
8pm-Close – RM28 + 2 drink

The drink can be beer or soft drink.

It was so clean and works still in progress when we were there. It’s so new that we, girls, actually opened the male’s toilet door to have look and M even asked me take photo of her in there! ;p

The location is at Premier 101, just go around the place and you will see. Don’t know how to explain the location. It’s in one of the blocks at the back.

bing! @ Premier 101

As you know, yesterday was the opening of bing! at Premier 101, new branch. We went and were lucky to be the first 100 customers to get the 10% discount card.

The place is very much easier to move around compare to the one at Padungan.

We ordered Hot Caramel(RM9), Blackcurrant Fruit Tea(forget price ;p), and White Mocha Iced Blended(RM12.50). We got 10% discount of course.

Here’s the card and some views of the place.

Tian Sian Steamboat

Posted on December 22, 2008December 31, 2008 By sweet surrender 4 Comments on Tian Sian Steamboat

Decided to try out Tian Sian Steamboat, a new steamboat establishment that just opened for business not long ago. I heard that it’s expensive but still wanted to try out. So we went…

The menu and the pot of soup. We ordered the small spicy hotpot soupbase(RM30). It’s not spicy at all because we told them that we didn’t want anything too spicy. At first we wanted to order the spicy and original combo but the pot wasn’t here yet. Then we wanted to order the original soupbase, it was out of stock also.

Lamb shoulder(RM21) and pork shoulder(RM13). Basically, this place is not halal. Ordered others too(refer to the receipt later) but no photos because they pour everything in for you. I stopped them from pouring in the meat because I prefer to shabu-shabu them than letting them cooked inside the pot.

Somebody is an alcoholic, whenever he sees beer, he sure can’t resist it, Heineken small (RM10). For the rest of us, we ordered tinned green tea(RM5). See those garlics, dried chilies, and etc. We tried to figure out what’s in the soup ;p By the way, there’s no dipping sauces available as this is what makes it different from other steamboat establishments.

It’s quite good but the price is also quite “good”. Usually you will feel very thirsty when having steamboat but for this, I didn’t feel thristy at all and I even had difficulty finishing my green tea.

3 of us, the bill came to this total (O.o)”
Of course we didn’t show our shocked faces(or I’m the only shocked one, I don’t know about the rest ;p) to them, we paid and left and complaint in the car *LOL* We already expected it to be expensive but didn’t expected it to reach such amount because we ordered so little things. Not to forget the 10% service tax.

I wonder how long will it survive though… Knowing Kuching people and I already hear many saying that they won’t go for the second time anymore, too expensive! As for me? I don’t think I will go again also even though it’s good but cannot afford to spend this kind of money always.

You can find them in KL, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, and China. You can check out their website at http://www.tansian.com.tw

Why do you want to dig that far?
