Chinese New Year 2007 – Day 1 (Lion Dance)

Posted on February 18, 2007February 20, 2007 By sweet surrender 11 Comments on Chinese New Year 2007 – Day 1 (Lion Dance)

Before the clock striked twelve, there were already fireworks and firecrackers everywhere, these were just warm ups even though it rained, few minutes before 12, it’s getting more intense and lasted for almost 1 hour. Some shoots, no tripod, so don’t expect any nice photos hahaha…

I woke up at about 10am this morning πŸ˜› Hahaha… Woke up at 7.30am and then went back to sleep. Around 2pm, I went to Jimmy’s house for a short visit before going over to Lee’s house to watch lion dance performance. We were invited to withness the lion dance by Lee. Even if he didn’t invite us, we would be visiting him too. Nothing to do at home. So bored. I’ve been visiting Lee’s house on the first day ever since few years back. Then second visit when we had our group visiting. I did mention that I’m going to hunt for lion dance this year *LOL* Now I got it! Here’s the photos to share with you, not much, just a few shoots coz the rest are almost the same.

The troop reached Lee’s house at 3pm and shortly after we arrived, they started. First they let off firecrackers to start the dance. The lions danced at the main gate and gradually into the house. I was choked by the firecrackers smoke. *cough cough* By the way, fireworks and firecrackers are banned in Malaysia but I don’t think anyone cares about the ban.

Inviting or to be exact hiring lion dance troop to dance at your house or shop or office is to bring in luck. You will pay them by putting the money into the red packet a.k.a ang pao. Usually people will offer pamelo and cabbage together with the ang pao. The lion will peel the pamelo and the cabbage, then take the ang pao(see the bottom right photo).

After Lee’s house, we went to Jimmy’s house. At about 6pm, we called it a day. I’m still not really in CNY mood -_-“

Blogging since 2002. Anything before 2006 is no longer available. It is no longer on this server. Back then, I built my own blog and updated it using HTML. No database or anything. Only started blogging fully with a CMS in 2006. However, whatever was on the Internet will stay on the Internet. So... It should be still somewhere on the Internet. Then again... Why do you want to dig that far?
