Sharing some memorable moments.

The 4-Year-Olds

Posted on November 24, 2010November 25, 2010 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on The 4-Year-Olds

I’m sure you’re are curious about my practicum that had just ended 2 weeks ago. Going to share with you some photos that I managed to take.

These were taken during the concert rehearsal at a local restaurant. I couldn’t make it on the actual day of the concert because I had class to attend.
Left: Dikir Barat, the only performance with a 3 years old in the group of 4 to 6 year-olds.
Right: Fan Dance, combination of 4-6 year-olds.

Due to privacy reason, I mosaic their eyes. Still you can see how cute they are and how they love the camera so much! I think photographing children is fun!

I was assigned to the class of the 4-year-olds aka year one preschoolers. They’re young enough to be my children. Imagine if I’m married few years back, I would have a child this big already! It’s pretty scary when come to think about this hahaha…

I’ve been with them for more than 2 months. I’m in-charge of their daily reading programme. There were 17 of them in a class, more girls than boys. The photos show only 13 children, 4 were absent. However, the last photo, the 4 absent ones were there as it was taken the next day.

The colouring sheet they’re holding was given by me to occupied them while waiting for their turn for one-to-one daily reading programme as I was the only adult in the class during this period of time. My mentor was on leave and I was asked to take charge of her class. Not easy… Luckily there’s another teacher helping after the reading session. I would go nuts if I’m being left with them for the whole morning once they completed their assigned tasks. Must make sure to give them as much work as possible to settle them down especially during the reading session else the whole second floor could collapse! Or you’ll start to hear them crying and complaining because they started to play rough. Oh well… Children… What do you expect?

In fact, there were some that they were not 4 years old yet, on the way to 4 years old. Very smart children I must say, they could colour quite well. They could cut quite well also. Oh yes! Kid you not! They were trained to handle the scissors in preschool year 1! I was surprised as most kindergartens/parents would not let 4 year-olds handle scissors but not this school. They were only allowed to use the scissors with the teacher’s permission. Once they finish the cutting task, scissors must be put back into the container. They were given with clear instructions that they should not misuse the scissors. It’s a task that the children appreciate a lot as they couldn’t do it anywhere even at home. It’s great for their hand-eye coordination.

Gonna miss them heaps even though some of them really made me want to drive up the wall especially when they misbehaved *LOL* Who doesn’t?

Little Boy & Toilet Seat

Posted on November 16, 2010November 17, 2010 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Little Boy & Toilet Seat

I ended my practicum last Friday. However, I went back on Monday and today to help out as volunteer because there was not enough hand due to some staffs taking emergency leaves.

During the practicum period, I encountered many interesting events especially those related to children. You know children always say the darndest thing or do some cute, funny or irritating acts that can either make an adult laugh or gone nuts.

Today, I saw and heard something from a 4 years old boy to a 4 years old girl. In the place I’m doing my practicum, boys and girls share the same toilet, just like how we share the toilet at home. The little boy lifted up the toilet seat and urinated. Then a little girl went in wanted to use the toilet but she couldn’t because the little boy was using it. She waited for her turn at the door.

Then I suddenly heard this, “E, I put the toilet seat down already, you can use it now.” He was putting down the toilet seat at the same time.

Honestly, I was a bit stunned with that act. As I know, for more than 2 months, I don’t think I saw or noticed such act, the boys put down the toilet seat for the girls to use. I’m not so sure he’s trained by the school to do this or from home. It doesn’t matter really, good habits have to start young be it from home or from school but home is always the first school for the children. Parents definitely play an important role. This is something we cannot deny.

This leads me to another point.

See how some couples got into argument just because of toilet seat issue. Even the little boy know when to lift or put down the toilet seat, what’s more for the adults. Then again, I don’t mean that all the men must do that, I really don’t care whether they put the toilet seat down or not, I can always do it myself if I need to. What’s the point of arguing about this petty issue right?

Anyway, I’m really impressed with what the 4 four years old boy did today. How about you? Are you impressed?

Alex & Sunita Wedding (25/9/2010)

Posted on September 26, 2010September 26, 2010 By sweet surrender 4 Comments on Alex & Sunita Wedding (25/9/2010)

One of my ex-college mates got married yesterday. Now based in Sydney but came back for the holy matrimonial. This post is specially dedicated to many ex-college mates that didn’t manage to go to the wedding and also for those that Alex couldn’t contact. It’s been a long while, lost touch with many people.

Was invited to his wedding. We’ve not seen each other since 2003(if I recall correctly). Only stayed in touch via Friendster and later Facebook. After 7 years, finally see him in person.

The theme colour was purple. Judging from the decorations.

The bride and groom and parents. There’s live performance greeting the guests at the entrance last night.

The stage and the main table.

Left: We asked for some photos for keepsake. These were what we got.

Right: The happy bride and groom led by a saxophone player during their grand entrance. Alex managed to strike a pose for my camera. The good thing about sitting very near the entrance even though we were sitting at the second last table ;p

Left: Cut the cake after grand entrance. There’s the saxophone player. Thank goodness it’s not a typical Chinese wedding banquet. There were live band, ballroom dancing, live singing, and “Elvis”. There was also dance floor for those who wanted to dance but not many danced except when Jambatan Tamparuli was sang, they danced the Sumazau as the bride is from Sabah.

Right: Kheng Guan and I.

Left: Kueh Liong, Hok Shieh, Kiong Kong, and I. Haven’t seen them for ages too. Since 2003 too.

Right: Raymond and wife. If his wife didn’t attend the wedding, I would be the only rose at our table hehehe…

Left: Wedding favour, tealight candle. Came in many colours.

Right: Our one and only and last photo before my camera’s battery went flat. Lucky to have this shoot. 2 people didn’t come so there were only 7 of us. Supposed to have 9 people.

Didn’t mange to take most of the food photos because my camera ran out of power, so there’ll be no post about food.

If not for the IELTS test yesterday morning, I would be at their church wedding too.

King-to Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa

Posted on September 18, 2010September 19, 2010 By sweet surrender No Comments on King-to Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa

I’m sure many of you are familiar with King-to Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa. Believe it or not, this is the first time I’m having it.

I lost my voice on Friday for don’t know what reason. Maybe used too much of my voice when dealing with the group of almost 20 4 years old. It’s worst than singing 6 hours of karaoke *LOL* My mentor asked me to have this else it might get worst. Scary… I quickly went to buy one small bottle.

It does help. My voice still isn’t in very good condition but much better than yesterday, can’t talk too loud or too much. My IELTS speaking test will be next Friday, hopefully it will be OK by then. So worry that I might lose my voice again as I will start to teach some subjects next Wednesday -.-“

Not Feeling Well

Posted on September 15, 2010September 16, 2010 By sweet surrender 4 Comments on Not Feeling Well

Body aching, eyes heavy, clumsy, and lightheaded.

Luckily it’s public holiday tomorrow. Not feeling well since Monday. It’s only the 3rd day, how to hang in there until November? I’ve been getting less than 7 hours sleep everyday. There’s no public holiday anymore too.

Had Panadol just now. Guess I’ll end the night early today. Getting sick is a big No-No because I need to prepare for next week’s ILETS! There’ll also be a wedding dinner to attend next week!

OK… Off to have my rest.

Blogging since 2002. Anything before 2006 is no longer available. It is no longer on this server. Back then, I built my own blog and updated it using HTML. No database or anything. Only started blogging fully with a CMS in 2006. However, whatever was on the Internet will stay on the Internet. So... It should be still somewhere on the Internet. Then again... Why do you want to dig that far?
