Category: Seeking the Sun – Brisbane & Gold Coast

First holiday out of Adelaide to another state in Australia.

Brisbane 23/7/2012 – Part 1

Posted on August 13, 2012January 9, 2013 By sweet surrender No Comments on Brisbane 23/7/2012 – Part 1

WOW! It’s been awhile huh? ;p Was busy with lots of things lately and was sick last weekend -.-”

So on the second day, we headed out to Dreamworld at Gold Coast. Luckily my friend’s housemates wanted to go too, so they drove. Else, it would be extremely expensive to go there via public transport. What’s more we’re on extremely tight budget. Spent about $110 for annual unlimited access pass as it allows access to Dreamworld, Whitewater World, and Skypoint. Should just buy the day pass because there’s no way to play at Whitewater World, it’s damn cold! Due to miscommunication oh well… Maybe I’ll get to go again before the pass expires in June 2013.

It took us about 45 minutes or less (if not mistaken) to drive there from Brisbane.

Frankly, I was a bit disappointed with it. It’s not as grand as I thought. Anyway, paid so much, might just enjoy it as much as possible even though it didn’t live up to my expectation.

Left: The place selling all the sweets and chocolates.
Right: The first ride, The Claw! OMG! Damn scary! It’s insane of us to go on such ride as a start. The scariest of all! I screamed like crazy and didn’t even dare to open my eyes. Sswinging at up to 75 km/h and spinning 360 degrees!

Left: Wipeout, my second ride. Another high thrill one. This wasn’t as scary as Claw. I opened my eyes througout the whole ride. In fact I rather enjoyed it except during the time we were hanging upside down ;p

After that, went on a medium thrill ride and it was much scarier than Wipeout, screamed my heart out -.-” Made me giddy too. It’s called the Reef Rider, no photo of it though.

Right: Then, it was Shockwave. This is a piece of cake.

Left: Then we walked around Shrek’s Faire Faire Away.
Right: Saw Kung Fu Panda at Po’s Kung Fu Gardenand took a photo with him. Too bad this section wasn’t completed yet.

We then headed to see the tigers at Tiger Island . My first time seeing real tigers! The babies, they’re huge even though only few months old.

The presentation by the tigers.

Next, we went to get our annual pass and few more rides, to be continued…

Brisbane 22/7/2012 – Part 2

Posted on August 2, 2012January 9, 2013 By sweet surrender No Comments on Brisbane 22/7/2012 – Part 2

After South Bank, we headed to the CBD via Citycat.

Left: The casino.
Right: Random view in the CBD.

We went to David Jones’ food court for its spicy beef noodle ($6.50) which was recommeded by my friend. It wasn’t bad for the price.

Then we headed to Fortitude Valley aka Chinatown of Brisbane via train. ARG! Just realized I didn’t save the photos of the Chinatown arch for this post. It felt like pasar malam in Malaysia and the area is not a place I would want to be, just didn’t have good feeling when I’m there. I still prefer the Chinatown of Adelaide, clean, cosy and small.

Oh… See the bicycles? It’s everywhere. You have to be a member to be able to ride them if I’m not mistaken.

After Fortitude Valley, we headed back to Myer where Beach House is located. My friends had pre-dinner drink here and we killed our time here while waiting for dinner time.

By the way, see Starbucks? It’s not a common sight to see it in Australia, only major cities. Used to have it in Adelaide but close shop years back due to different coffee culture and they expanded too fast.

Dinner time! Funny Funny here we come. A Korean restaurant. I felt as if I’m in Korea here.

Left: Beer, the only glass I had. This is the only beer I’m willing to drink ;p Didn’t drink the soju, just wetted my tongue with it, damn strong!
Right: Yummy side dishes!

Left: Spicy seafood and beg soup served in hotpot (medium-$27). Very spicy indeed! However, it tasted as if there’s so much MSG in it.
Right: Tuna in kimchi soup served in hotpot (medium-$27), not spicy at all but didn’t like tuna cooke this way.

Food portion was huge! Fed 6 people and could feed two more too. Side dishes were refilled for free. Paid only $9 for this dinner. Worth it!

After dinner, we called it a night, it was so tiring.

Brisbane 22/7/2012 – Part 1

Posted on August 1, 2012January 9, 2013 By sweet surrender No Comments on Brisbane 22/7/2012 – Part 1

Early in the morning, at 7.30am, took a bus to the airport with my friend. Reached there at almost 8am.

On the plane waiting for my flight to take off at 9.25am. I’m using Jetstar. WOW! Very low-cost indeed. The legroom was really narrow. Narrower than Air Asia. My friend took the flight 10 minutes after mine, flying Virgin Australia.

Bye bye Adelaide…

Hello Brisbane! It was warm even though it’s winter *LOL*

We stayed at my friend’s house who I met during my Korea trip. Great view from his apartment. Imagine the flood in 2011 -.-” The river swelled so much and Brisbane was under water! It was so serious. My friend’s apartment’s ground floor was flooded even though it’s situated on the hill. Imagine that!

We had a rest and dessert(a type of Greek dessert) before heading out via the Citycat. SA concession card is not recognised in Queensland so we had to pay full-fare of the ticket =.=” Expensive! Nevertheless, it’s a nice experience.

View taken from the Citycat, on the way to South Bank.

South Bank from Citycat.

The jetty and the view from South Bank.

There’s an event called Regional Flavours, it’s basicall food and beverage event. Thought of buying something from there but at the end didn’t buy anything.

While walking around the area, I got bird shit on my head! -.-” If only I hit jackpot just like that. How “lucky”!

The beach in the middle of the city…

To be continued…

Back from Brisbane

Posted on July 25, 2012January 9, 2013 By sweet surrender No Comments on Back from Brisbane

I’m back! Such tiring trip. Very short but it was good.

Hello Brisbane!

The view from my friend’s apartment. Was lucky to have a place to stay here and managed to save quite a fair bit of money. If not, it won’t be that cheap to go there.

Here’s the summary of my trip:
Day 1 (22/7/2012): Brisbane
Day 2 (23/7/2012): Dreamworld and Whitewater World
Day 3 (24/7/2012): Gold Coast
Day 4 (25/7/2012): Back to Adelaide

I still prefer Adelaide. Don’t think I will want to stay in Brisbane or Gold Coast long term. Don’t mind going for holiday though.
