Trip to Singapore

Singapore Trip 29/12/2010-1/1/2011 – Part 3

Posted on January 7, 2011September 12, 2013 By sweet surrender No Comments on Singapore Trip 29/12/2010-1/1/2011 – Part 3

After Orchard Road, we made our move to Sembawang to hand over something to my cousin.

Before that, we went to Sun Plaza just next to Sembawang MRT for a quick munch. Had it at the food court. Need to use the lift to go up, didn’t know such place exist. Had a bao and strawberry milk ice dessert. In fact, we shared a plate of rice but I forgot to take photo of it hehehe…

After sending the thing over to my cousin. We headed straight to Sembawang Shopping Centre using the free shuttle.

Went straight for dinner at Astons Specialities because my dad told us that the queue could be quite long. Indeed, the place was packed! We had to wait. I notice that this trip I forgot to take photos of all the long queues I encountered. Every place we went, sure long queue.

We ordered 2 types of food only to share since we had some food earlier on at Sun Plaza.

Left: The steak is a must try. Prime Sirloin (SGD11.50) with two sides. We had Mashed Potato and House Salad.

Right: Medium rare. If only we get such good steak with RM11.50 here, it would be great but with such price, I don’t think you can get any decent steak or even steak this thick.

Left: Another photo slightly up-close. Actually I placed the wrong photo, lazy to change.

Right: Onion Ring, one of the sides for Grilled Fish with Herbs.

Left: Grilled Fish with Herbs with two sides, Pasta Salad and Onion Ring (SGD7.50). This one wasn’t bad also.

Right: Mug Rootbeer(SGD1.50).

Overall, this place was not bad. The prices were very AFFORDABLE if you are earning SGD. No wonder so many people dined here. We waited for our food for almost half hour! You can imagine that… Even if convert the prices back to Ringgit, these prices couldn’t get you such quality of western food in Kuching, it’ll still be very far from this.

After dinner, we thought of going to Yishun but the free shuttle that was parked there waiting for passengers was to Sembawang. Since it’s late already, almost 9pm, we just got on that bus and went back to where we came from to go back to Bugis.

When we’re back to Sembawang, we went to Sun Plaza again to see see look look and buy some breads(there’s discount when they are closing to clear stock) for the next day’s trip. My bro bought some sushi for supper also but I forgot to take the photo ;p

That’s day 1 for you. Reached hotel at almost 10.30pm. Only first day and I felt so exhausted and legs were so painful. It’s really no fun to travel when your Aunty Flo is just around the corner.

After checking into the hotel, we went out for lunch before going to Orchard Road.

We wanted to eat at the food court at Bugis Junction but the place was packed! So dad suggested Nando’s. Off we went because my bro and I never had it. Did not expect that we had to queue, so many people.

The sauces on the table (tomato, garlic, extra hot peri-peri, and hot peri-peri). Tried all 3 sauces except extra hot. Hmmm… Nothing special. I’ve been hearing people raving about Nando’s but really nothing excite me.

Left: Soft drink, Coke(SGD2.90).

Right: 1/2 Chicken with Mediterranean Rice (SGD18.90), I did not expect such rice -.-” For the chicken, we had lemon and herbs instead of the spicy ones because afraid that it might upset our stomach and ruin the whole trip. The meat was tender and juicy. Other than that, nothing wowed me. I guess the special thing should be the sauces. Without them, it’s just your normal chicken that it’s cooked to perfection. However, I don’t think I like the sauces. Just not my taste.

Left: Christmas tree outside ION.
Second left: Inside the Christmas tree of ION. Very hot in there but it’s nice in there. There’s 30 mirror balls, 31 stairs, 32 strobe lights, 850 baubles, 3720 LED lights and 132000 tips in there.
Third left: One part of the street at Orchard Road.
Right: The Christmas tree at Takashimaya.

After lunch, we went to Orchard Road. Only walked inside ION and Lucky Plaza. Stepped in Ngee Ann City for awhile and walked out. Didn’t stay long at Orchard. Nothing to buy there, was not in the mood to shop and the things were not cheap. I’m not the kind that buy branded stuffs so those shops like Chanel, LV, Coach and so on didn’t have any impact on me.

Next, we went to Sembawang.

Singapore Trip 29/12/2010-1/1/2011 – Part 1

Not sure how long will it takes for me to finish this post with the rate I’m blogging nowadays. I didn’t take much photos, was too occupied with looking for places and got overwhelmed by the crowds! This is my 3rd trip to Singapore. I usually travel during low season, this is the first time traveling during peak season. Also, it’s quite a last minute trip, only booked the tickets in October, no promotion price some more but it’s the cheapest of all airlines and the cheapest of all the possible dates.

First time was with MAS, second time with Tiger. This time with Air Asia. Booked Fragrance Hotel at Bugis in late November, exactly one month after buying the tickets. In fact I had book the other hotel, Grand Mercure Roxy Hotel in early November but I canceled the booking after my parents asked me to check out Fragrance Hotel as they stayed there during their emergency trip there. It’s much cheaper and located at better location, near to Bugis Junction and MRT station. Good thing the booking I made earlier did not require me to pay, only pay when check-in. Really saved a lot.

4 days 3 nights at Fragrance Hotel cost us SGD500+ for family room meant for 3 persons but there were 4 of us. You get everything you need in there.

However, the fridge is empty. As if it did matter. No problem for us because we never touch anything in the fridge LOL! The room includes breakfast for 3 also. Then again, the fridge came in handy because that’s where we stored our leftover food that we couldn’t finish ;p

I did not get very good sleep there every night because the air-con blew directly to my bed. The sheet, mattress and pillow wasn’t comfortable. I don’t like that kind of blanket. The mattress was slippery because it’s covered with some PU material(basically not your usual mattress material) and I couldn’t sleep well because the pillow and sheet moved around easily because of the slipperiness of the mattress and the sheet was quite thin. It’s annoying listening to the sound when you turn your body.

Oh well… I’m just very picky when it comes to bedding(only two places satisfied my sleep so far, Holiday Inn Glenmarie and 41 Berangan), sorry… It’s just me but then again I do recommend this place because it’s strategically located, clean, and it’s good enough. I will go back to stay again for sure.

The breakfast, only took this one photo of the food on the second day. It’s buffet style. The place is quite narrow. The food, kind of disappointed with the taste. Just don’t put much expectation on it.

That’s all about the hotel we stayed. Will blog about the places and food next.
