My Yen Chinese Restaurant

Posted on December 26, 2011December 28, 2011 By sweet surrender No Comments on My Yen Chinese Restaurant

Had a farewell/graduation dinner with those from my workplace and their families about a week ago. We had it at My Yen Chinese Restaurant loacted at 74 Belair Road, Hawthorn. It’s one of the oldest Chinese restaurants in Adelaide. I took a bus there, almost missed the stop. Really hate taking public transport even though the system here is good. I’m such a spoil brat ;p

I have no idea what the actual food we had, just let you see the photos hehehe…

It was such a BIG dinner! We have 12-course meal! Surprisingly our table cleared most of the plates but not the other tables hehehe… We’re such big eater. There’s a plate of cracker (not sure is it prawn crackers, could be) for you to savour before waiting for the food to be served. It’s kind of tasteless.

Left: Steam oyster with ginger & shallots.
Right: Salt & pepper squid with shredded chicken meat.

Left: Hun siu chicken shark fin soup.
Right: I’m not sure what’s this hahaha… I heard there’s abalone in there. *shrug* I only know there’s mushroom and green vegetable. I’m not familiar with all these rich people food such as abalone, lobster, shark fin, bird nest, and so on and so forth *LOL*. I don’t eat these back home and never dream of eating them unless it’s served in a dinner banquet. We don’t buy these stuffs to eat at home.

Left: Lobster with noodle with ginger & shallot, love this! My first time having lobster too.
Right: Pei pa duck.

King prawn with macadamia nuts & snow peas and Seafood fried rice.

Left: Steam coral trout with ginger & shallot.
Right: Roast chicken with num yu sauce.

Left: Red bean soup, extremely sweet but it tastes good because haven’t have one for soooo looooong…
Right: Red wine… I don’t like it. It took me whole night to finish half glass of red wine and stained my lips badly -.-” I prefer white wine but will avoid drinking any alcohol if possible.

What a night! So much food! Also, so much rich-people-food in a night ;p Overall, the food was great.

Eggless

Posted on December 17, 2011 By sweet surrender No Comments on Eggless

Eggless, it’s really eggless! The desserts they serve got no egg in them at all! If you’re a vegan or prefer gluten free desserts, they have it. Impressive. The crowd was even more impressive! It’s located at 162 Goodwood Road, just next to the churchand opposite the cinema

Went there last Saturday right after our Korean dinner. Too bad my camera ran out of battery at Burnside so I ended using my phone. That explains such colour.

It opened at 8pm but we reached there about half hour before 8pm to be the first in line! Scary I tell you, not long later more and more people came and the queue got sooooo looooong. It’s not even open for business yet and people already queuing up. I heard if you come after 8pm, you might have to wait at least 45 minutes to get a table. That’s how good their business is.

Left: Black Sticky Rice (AUD5.50), aromatic purplely black glutinous rice served warm with coconut cream, very yummy, haven’t eat this for soooo looong, for years! Finally had it in Adelaide *LOL* What an irony. I can always make this myself at home, just need to buy the rice at Chinatown. Soon I’ll make it ;p

Right: Mango & Candied Orange Creme Brulee (AUD8), fragrant mango custard with tangy candied orange pieces, a tiniest hint of ginger & crunchy torched sugar crust. It is quite sweet but that’s what dessert is all about, sweet ;p

Left: Vietnamese Banana Coconut Bread Pudding (AUD8), a beautifully moist Vietnamese style baked banana & coconut bread pudding (aka Banh Chuoi Nuong), accompanied with caramel sauce & vanilla ice cream (soy/dairy). A great East West fusion! Quite sweet for my liking but can taste that it’s a good pudding.

Right: Cendol (AUD7.50 I think… Can’t see the price clearly in my photo), eaten all over south east asia, this summery dessert is a yummy combo of red beans, pandan bean jelly (cendol), palm sugar, coconut milk & shaved ice. I don’t like the cendol though… it’s tough -.-” Also, I think it’s best for them to use a bowl than using a glass like this. It’s difficult to eat.

Overall, it’s a nice plce, I like the interior. The price is quite reasonable for a place that cater desserts for people with special diet (vegan and lacto-vegetarian). No wonder it’s so popular.

Sushi Gallery

Posted on December 15, 2011December 15, 2011 By sweet surrender 1 Comment on Sushi Gallery

Had my very first Korean food in Adelaide last week. I will be eating Korean food daily in about 2 weeks time! Excited but worry at the same time because I need to go to the airport at 4am on my own with all the luggage and I have limited knowledge of Korean language. Trying to learn it but too occupied with work.

Anyway, let’s talk about this place. I thought it’s a Japanese restaurant when I saw the name but it’s not. It’s located at Shop 7/475 Payneham Road, Felixstow. Also, was told that you can’t get sushi here unless you pre-order. Hmm… The name sure is confusing enough.

Left: Cutlery.
Right: Soontofu (AUD10.90), soft tofu marinara hotpot.

Left: Pork rib soup, I don’t know the price and the actual name.
Right: Garlic Chicken (AUD15), fried chicken with onion, garlic, and nuts.

The 3 side dishes consist of bean sprout, potato, and kimchi. While the big one is kimchi with beef (I think… I can’t find them in the menu).

Love them all! Each of us only paid AUD17 for all these, there’s 4 of us. In fact, these are a bit too much for 4 of us but we managed to cleared everything on the table. We’re all considered medium-big eater and we were stuffed. So if you’re small eater, these are definitely too much.

Overall, the place is highly recommended and the price is not bad at all just that it’s quite far from the city(at least for me, unless I have a car).

White Wings Creamies Whipped Passionfruit Cream

Posted on December 9, 2011December 9, 2011 By sweet surrender No Comments on White Wings Creamies Whipped Passionfruit Cream

Creamies is my favourite cookies! I bought it because it was on special because usually it’s quite expensive. I shoul dhave bought more but I only bought one.

Don’t underestimate it, just two Creamies and I could feel quite full. Love the buttery taste and melt in the mouth texture. Even the cream isn’t that sweet or oily, it’s just right.

Love it to bits but one packet only has 10 pieces if not mistaken. Will wait for it to go on special again. Hopefully it will be less than AUD1.20 when it’s on special else I won’t buy.

The Goody, After Exam Party

Posted on November 27, 2011November 27, 2011 By sweet surrender No Comments on The Goody, After Exam Party

Went to The Goody which located at 75 Goodwood Road few days ago with two computer poolers, the rest were too busy with their assignments and exam preparations. Well… It’s should be pre-exam party for us not after-exam ;p Went there because there’s free food (organized by the club of the uni) so decided to settle our dinner there.

The two computer poolers and I ;p

Too bad, we were still hungry because there’s no more food. Luckily at least we got hold of the plate of pizza and not going there for nothing. Was told there should be more coming but nothing after waited for so long, should head there earlier. I didn’t intend to drink any alcohol but ended up drank a bit of apple cider because we were given with it for sampling.

Waited for half hour and decided to go off as I need to go to swim.
