Chocolate Bean

Posted on May 1, 2013May 1, 2013 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Chocolate Bean

Back to Adelaide’s food post. Few more to go before I’m done with it. It’s been 2 months coming back and I’m still struggling to settle down.

Anyway, back to the main topic. I was told about Chocolate Bean but couldn’t locate it until one of my friends brought me there. It’s so near to where I lived yet I couldn’t find it because it’s in the small lane. I tried locating it via Google but I’m a map and direction idiot ;p. It’s less than 5 minutes walk from my place only *LOL*

Very cosy place. Love it! It’s located at 18 Union Street East End, Adelaide.

Left: I don’t quite remember what’s this. Extremely chocolatey! It’s a bit too much for me but we’re sharing so it’s fine. It should be chocolate mud cake.
Right: Lemon cheesecake. This is nice too. Just enough to even out the chocolate mud cake sweetness.

Left: White Chocolate Tea (AUD4.50), heavenly! I LOVE IT!!! Too bad… No more chance to go anymore as I only discovered it 2 weeks before I left. 🙁 I don’t know how to explain the taste but it’s not as heavy as chocolate and not as light as tea. Not too sweet too. Tasted slightly like milk tea but not milk tea. So hard to explain, you have to try it yourself to know.

Right: Dark Chocolate Tea (AUD4.50), not bad too but still prefer White Chocolate Tea.

I went there 3 times in 2 weeks! My final 2 weeks in Adelaide. Couldn’t get enough of it.

Highly recommended!

Melbourne (13/2/13-16/2/13) – Part 6

Posted on April 22, 2013April 22, 2013 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Melbourne (13/2/13-16/2/13) – Part 6

Final part of Melbourne trip. Our flight was at night, so in the morning we went to QV for a walk and lunch before going to the airport.

Simple found a place to settle our lunch at the food court. Don’t even remember the name hahaha… Anyway, it was located near Dan Murphy in QV. They served Singaporean and Malaysian cuisine. We ordered their lunch set which came with a glass of drink.

Left: Singapore Fried Noodle with Shrimps.

Left: Beef Brisket with Noodle Soup.
Right: Chicken Spare Ribs in Spicy Salt and Steamed Rice. If this came with a small bowl of soup, it would be great as it’s too dry.

Overall, the food was ok. Service was great.

After lunch, we had a walk at QV and came to this place where they are having a exhibition in creating some sort of awareness.

Guests were allowed to write their wishes on the cards and tie it anywhere in the area. Very interesting concept.

We also went to the library for air-con *LOL* too hot out there! Spent our time there until about 3pm and we headed back to our apartment to wait for our taxi.

Off we went to the airport. Window shopping at the airport. Then we had our dinner at Nando’s before boarding.

This sums up the our Melbourne trip. We reached Adelaide quite late at night and there was massive jam in the city because of the Chinese New Year event at Chinatown and also because it’s a Saturday, people were out too.

Melbourne (13/2/13-16/2/13) – Part 4

Third day in Melbourne, it was the main purpose we’re here.

Booked a Great Ocean Road Day Tour for AUD89/person. It’s a 12 hour plus tour.

Nothing much but just stopping in various locations for photos opportunties.

Sharing some photos taken on the road and also at the pit stops.

Very nice sceneries. The Great Ocean Road, I’ve been hearing about it many many times but never got the chance to go for such road trip until now.

One of the stops, for toilet break and also to spot some koalas and feed some birds. Spot the big one?!? HAHAHA!

Left: Koala sleeping, all they did is eat and sleep.
Right: The place where we had to gather to get on the bus again.

After the stop, we headed to lunch at Iluka Motel and Restaurant. We were given a list in the bus to tick our food preference. There’s 5 of us so we choosed 5 different dishes to try. This one is lamb in pita wrap.

Fish and chips, and chicken.

Rice and pasta for the vegetarians, and chicken schnitzel. The food was not bad, better than expected.

The tour package came with lunch. There’s another package with BBQ lunch but I opted for this.

After lunch, we continued with our journey.

Left: Flinders Train Station.
Right: After the bus ride, we headed to Chinatown for lunch.

The arc of Chinatown, how can you miss it?

After a walk down the street, we ended up at The Crane Restaurant. My first time ordering food using iPad ;p In fact it’s nothing new just that I never patron such restaurants *LOL*

Left: Fish fillet in hot and sour soup (AUD8), very big, have to share this.
Right: Don’t remember what’s this. It’s eggplant and green beans with rice.

Left: Mixed mushroom rice in soup in stone clay pot (AUD10.80). Have to share this too.

Overall, the food portion was rather big and price was reasonable. Food tasted not so bad too. Many choices to choose from that gave us headache on what to order.

Left: The state library, very nice architecture.

Right: After lunch, we took the free tram to Harbour Town.

Harbour Town, thought of buying some clothes there but nothing to buy -.-” Couldn’t find what I want.

This was our final destination of the day. Day 3 coming up…

Adelaide Pho

Posted on April 3, 2013April 3, 2013 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Adelaide Pho

Adelaide Pho, it’s known to be the best pho in Adelaide CBD. Well… Well… Maybe… I don’t know as I don’t eat pho in the CBD, most of the time we would go to the Vietnamese area for it.

Adelaide Pho is located at 199 Waymouth Street. We went there because we had got no idea where to eat after coming back from Robe.

As usual, whenever I’m in a Vietnamese eatery, I’ll order its pho, nothing else but pho (pronounce it as something like “fur” with very light sound of “r” *LOL*). What’s pho? It’s a Vietnamese dish consisting of broth, noodles made from rice, a few herbs, and meat. The best? Sorry… Not the best for me. Even my friends wasn’t satisfied with it. It didn’t manage to satisfy our craving for pho. I ordered Pho Tai Nam that consisted of fresh slice and cooked beef (small, AUD9) that’s why the meat is pink.

Left: Combination rice (large, AUD11.50). Too bad, They don’t have broken rice. This is just your normal steamed rice. Usually you’ll find broken rice in Vietnamese restaurant but strangely not this one.

Right: Crispy chicken egg noodle (not sure it’s large-AUD10.50 or small-AUD9.50.)

Overall, the portion was quite standard, price was pretty much the same as other places. Some how the pho wasn’t up to my expectations.

By the way, you’ll get charged with 50 cents/person for a bottle of water! What the heck?!? Normally you won’t get charged for just tap water unless you asked for bottled water(spring/mineral water). What’s more at this type of eatery. Sorry… It didn’t go well with us as far as we know, we didn’t get charged like this at other places, it should be complimentary. 50 cents to wash a glass, guess that’s why.

Will I come back again? No… One reason is that it’s not up to my expectations and another reason is the charges of requesting for a bottle of tap water. I won’t be back in Adelaide in any near future anyway so it doesn’t make a difference. I guess this is the worst feeback I have after posting so many posts about eateries in Adelaide.
