A Good 3-Column WordPress Template

Posted on June 5, 2007June 6, 2007 By sweet surrender 18 Comments on A Good 3-Column WordPress Template

I’ve been looking for a GOOD template for my blog as I want to make it into a 3-column one due to my sidebar getting longer and longer and messier. However, I can’t seem to find any. It’s not the design that I mean, well… Design does contribute a bit on my decision though I can modifed the design myself however I don’t want to spend too much time on revamping the whole template. It’s the functionalities that matter the most to me.

The one I’m using now is Cutline, I love this a lot. It took me quite sometimes to modified the design though still not to my liking, I don’t think I want to spend too much time to modified it till I’m satisfied. As long that it’s clean it’s enough. Besides that, the reason I choose this is also due to their functionalities.

I came across a lot of templates that are not so bad on the design part but the functionalities sucks big time!

1. They don’t have an archive page that comes with it! I know I can add in one if I want but like I said, I’m damn lazy to find out OK?!?! I don’t want my whole monthly archive listed at the sidebar. I hate that! This problem is very rampant in 3-column template.

2. There is no way to go to “next” or “previous” post when you are in an individual post. It’s so hard to read a person blog without it. This feature is very important. I know I can add it in but again I don’t want to spend my time tweaking the codes. Thank you very much.

3. There are also templates that do not provide you with going to the “next” or “previous” page right below the end of the page. It’s giving visitors hard time to read previous posts. Let’s say I have 10 posts in my first page, I can’t go to the previous 10 posts at all. The only way for me to do so is to click on the monthly archive. HECK! I don’t want to go filter them out and find the post the I haven’t read yet. It’s such a waste of time! It’s so convenient to navigate a person’s blog when there are links below the page.

How I wish Cutline can have a 3-column one so that I do not need to revamp everything. I’ve been changing a lot of the CSS and the PHP, I don’t want to go tru’ this whole thing all over again with new template. It needs a lot of time and I don’t have such time to spend!

If anyone manage to find template that have the 3 functionalities available for me, I will definitely consider them. If possible I want a clean template design also because I don’t want to change so many of the CSS and do so many graphics.

Maybe I should add a column to this template by myself hmmm… It’s going to need a lot of time and experimenting. -.-”

33rd Sarawak Mandarin Singing Competition

Posted on June 4, 2007November 21, 2008 By sweet surrender 18 Comments on 33rd Sarawak Mandarin Singing Competition

Went to 33rd Sarawak Mandarin Singing Competition last night at Kenyalang Theatre. The entrance fee cost me RM10 and in return I got to have naps on and off *LOL* Boring… At least for me, was quite awaked when the first 4 contestants sang, then after that I took many naps. Really not my type summore almost half of the contestants sang the same song!! This competition was jointly organised by Sarawak Singing Council and Kota Samarahan Music Friendship Society. It started on Friday night and the final was last night. Previous 2 nights tickets were RM5 each.

The tickets and the stage.

Left: The announcers
Right: A female singer sang to test the sound system before starting the contest.

Left: Performance by a little girl before the break.
Right: After quite a long break, finally it’s the male contestants turn to go up. However, before that a male singer sang for sound test.

The male contestants.

Before announcing the result, they had closing ceremony speeches and took down the flag from the pole.

Left: Handed the flag over to next year’s organiser. I don’t know who. 😛 Told you I’ve been napping on and off.
Right: The contest summary by one of the judges.

Left: Giving grand prize to the best association. Miri won it.
Right: Waiting for the second and first place winners to be announced.

Gawai Potluck+BBQ

Posted on June 3, 2007June 3, 2007 By sweet surrender 22 Comments on Gawai Potluck+BBQ

Hahaha… People Gawai we also Gawai 😛 We had a potluck+BBQ session at Ann’s house yesterday. So pathetic… Only some of our friends turned up, the rest were Jee’s friends. What to do? Everyone already got plan for the long holiday. The good thing is that, since usually it’s us that do everything, this year we’ll just let Jee’s gang do the cleaning up and so on hahaha… Our side have too few people and after eating we watched TV and I “escaped” early *LOL*

Here are some food photos:

Left: Gosshh.. Such big pack of ice!! I was wondering how were we going to finish them. I didn’t even touch a bit of it. How did they settle it at the end? I don’t know… I wasn’t there.
Right: BBQ! Jee was the chief chef, he was there BBQ the whole night. Poor Jee… We just ate, ate, ate only. No wonder he didn’t want BBQ when we discussed about it and preferred potluck coz he knew that he would be the one in charge of the pit. 😛

Left: The chicken wings.
Right: Satays.

Left: Lamb.
Right: A table full of food!!!

After eating, some of them played card games, while some chatting, some watch TV.

Hehehe… No photo of me 😛 Since I’m the one holding the camera. Not much camwhore last night. That’s all.

Green Spot

Posted on June 2, 2007June 2, 2007 By sweet surrender 22 Comments on Green Spot

Familiar with this name? No? See the photo and I’m sure you will go OooOOooOoo… Hahaha… Well, only those growing up in the 80’s, 70’s, 60’s or earlier will be familiar with this. I’m not sure about those in the 90’s. Have any fond memory of it? Gossh… It reminds me that I’m no longer young anymore.

I don’t think you can see it here in the city anymore but you can definitely see them in small districts and towns. For those of you that have not much idea, do you know a drink called Sundrop? If you do, then this is the product that is produced by this company. It used to be a hit among us long time ago just like Coke or Pepsi. Then when more and more brands coming out, this is later forgotten. Due to that, the company produced a new drink called Sundrop.

I think this bottle must have gone tru’ all the thick of thin of your life and mine for quite a number of decades. The bottles were washed and reused. You need to return the bottle back to them and not throw them away. There were no plastic bottles last time and that time, everything was in glass bottle like this. During Chinese New Year, we used to have crates and crates of softdrinks in glass bottles, after finishing them, these bottles were sent back to where we bought it and they would return it to the factory to be washed and reused. I think the bottle you are seeing now it’s still the same old bottle that was used 20, 30 years ago. I don’t think they produce new bottles for it. Everything is exactly the same. See how things that were produced decades ago can last this long?

It still has the wordings stated “The Amoy Canning Corp. (M). BHD.” on one side. The company no longer use this name. Then another side is “Licensed By Green Spot Co. U.S.A”, does this company still exists in the US? Need to Google about it.

There is no Malay name for the drink. You can only see English, Chinese and Tamil. There were no such law about printing details of all those things you see in bottles nowadays.

Talking about this, remember Fanta? I always like Fanta green hehehe… Now if you ask me to drink these beverages, I won’t dare to drink much, maybe a sip or two but I didn’t drink the one in the photo. I wanted to drink but couldn’t get myself to drink it. I even don’t drink F&N Orange, Groovy Grape etc. Nice to see, very colourful but not nice to drink. The colours are freaking me out.

Do you feel old now? Hahaha… It does bring back a lot of memories. Very nostalgic.

My First Nail Project

Posted on June 1, 2007June 1, 2007 By sweet surrender 12 Comments on My First Nail Project

It’s Gawai now. Happy Gawai!

OMG!! Another “volcano” building up and it will burst again anytime today 🙁 Sigh… I accidentally ate o-jien(a type of seafood dish. A type of clam(hmm… oyster? or mussels? I don’t know) that is cooked with egg, flour and some other ingredients that I don’t know, some what like omelet) the other day. As for tomorrow BBQ, don’t know can I made it or not with my eye like this 🙁 If it burst today, then I’ll be going tomorrow but many food I can’t eat. Boooo…

Did a bit of decorations on my nail this afternoon. The effect is not what I want, too cramped. The yellow flowers were supposed to be for my twinky fingers but it couldn’t seem to stick well because the surface of my fingernails are too curvy. Don’t want waste it, I added it to my toes.

There are 3 bottles of nail polish there but I only used two. The purple one was supposed to be used for making dots but not successful.

I don’t want to do them on my fingernails as it will be difficult to eat with my fingers. I like to lick my fingers after I’m done eating with them. Hahaha…

Step 1:
Give the base a colour. If you don’t want, you can paint the base using the transparent nail polish to prepare the nail for the 3D nail stickers.

Step 2:
Carefully prick the nail stickers, using a tweezer will be a good choice, I used my fingernails and it’s a bit hard to position them on my toes.

Step 3:
When you are done with the whole arrangement thing, then give a coat or two of transparent nail polish to your toes so that the stickers will last longer.
