Serian Town Old Shops Gone…

Posted on June 14, 2007June 15, 2007 By sweet surrender 13 Comments on Serian Town Old Shops Gone…

Update: Just got the news that two rows of shops were gone. I forgot to mention that they are just opposite Esso and Shell. Imagine that, the fire was so big and if the petrol stations blew up… OMG!! Whole Serian town would be gone! The shops were built in 1924, the shops are the oldest shops in Serian town. The fire started at around 2am but fire engine only arrived at 3am+(unbelievable!). They could only be controlled by 4am, the whole fire fighting activities ended at noon today.

Just got a news that Serian town old shops were gone. The fire engulfed the old shops yesterday, or last night or dawn, not so sure yet. I heard that one row was gone. Luckily another row which is just seperated by a concrete footpath escaped from the tragedy. The businessmen are sure to be suffering very big loss and they’ve been doing business and staying there from generation to generation.

I should have taken some photos of them when I went to Serian’s last time. Now, a piece of history is gone forever.

Usually we would have our lunch at one of the coffeeshops there before going back down to my mom’s kampung. My dad like to buy their “chai kueh”. Now… They are gone…. Whole row gone…

The news should be out in the newspapers tomorrow or if you subscribe to evening newspapers, then you should already know the news by now.

If you re wondering where is Serian? It’s a district in Sarawak, Hmm… It’s around 64KM from Kuching.

Causeway Bay Hong Kong Restaurant

Posted on June 14, 2007June 14, 2007 By sweet surrender 20 Comments on Causeway Bay Hong Kong Restaurant

Not sure where to have lunch today and ended up at Causeway Bay Hong Kong Restaurant at Crown Square. Many people already complained about it. I don’t know to complain or not. The pricing are definitely quite high but for the drinks’ prices are OK, I think… Definitely more worth it to have a drink there than at Mr. Ho’s.

Left: The entrance.
Right: The interior with very special lightings but hmm… I felt strange under this kind of lightings.

Left: The other side of the interior. Two huge pictures of Hong Kong skyline on the wall, very nice but very polluted place. I mean Hong Kong not the restaurant πŸ˜›
Right: (L)Tea In Hong Kong Style(RM2.80), it’s just milk tea! (R)Cold Jasmine Tea(RM2.80), huge jar and the straw was too short, I had to tilt the jar to finish it πŸ˜›

Left: Black Pepper Sizzling Noddle with Chicken Chop(RM6.90). You can opt for mushroom sauce too. Pretty big portion. Taste wise was OK.
Right: Mushroom Sauce Sizzling Noddle with Fish Chop(RM6.90). It tasted like tomato instead of mushroom but not tomato enough. Don’t know how to explain. Big portion and I almost couldn’t finish it. You can opt for black pepper.

Hmmm… *Shrug* Don’t seem to have much complain with me. However, I don’t have the urge to go back for second time. By the way, 5% GST would be charged.

The Truth About Sarawak

Posted on June 13, 2007June 13, 2007 By sweet surrender 15 Comments on The Truth About Sarawak

Hahaha… Must be wondering what is the truth about Sarawak right? You know I had this conversation with a net friend from Penang on MSN the other day and I really don’t know to kek si(angry till die) or to chio si(laugh till die).

He: Eh! Are you near to Labuan?
Me: Hmmm… It’s up, up, up there. I have to fly all the way there, you say near or not? It’s in Sabah.
He: Sabah? You not in Sabah meh? You told me before you are in Kuching.
Me: Yes, I’m from Kuching but I’m not from Sabah and I had never set my foot there till now. Since when I said I’m from Sabah?
He: Kuching not in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah meh?
Me: *almost fall down from chair* ~.~” Nooo… Kuching is in Sarawak.

I’m sure many East Malaysians ever encounter this sort of conversation before. Very classic one… This leads me to the tag that Monkey tagged. Actually it started by Clare.

It’s just for fun ok? Don’t get upset by it. You think we are not upset when you asked us questions like this? We did but since it’s a never ending story so we think it’s better to play along rather than getting upset since high blood pressure cases are increasing nowadays we better don’t let it shoot too high.

Q: Oh, you are from Sarawak! *eyes wide with excitement* So far away! How you people come here ah?
A: Fly here of course.

Q: Plane? Got airport?
A: You don’t know we have our own helicopters? We have our own helipads and hanger at home also.

Q: You guys not living in jungle/or trees meh?
A: We live in jungle but don’t live on trees. We do not need to live on tree because we have many lands. Trees are only for those that don’t have any land.

Q: Got Internet?
A: Got. We use wireless one, super duper fast from satelite one. Else how we update blog? How you think Kenny Sia can be so popular?

Q: I heard that the road there not very good right? Must have 4×4?
A: Yealo so bad till even go to the nearest supermarket or grocery shop also have to drive. We have a lot here such as Land Rover, Land Cruiser, Pajero, Prado, X5, you name it, you see it everywhere. We also have own helicopter too when we want to go somewhere futher like KL.

Q: You guys have electricity or not?
A: Got. We use solar system one.

Q: Sarawak got Malay?
A: Sarawak is in Malaysia, what do you think?

Q: So, you guys there got Sultan?
A: Then we will have Agong from Sarawak.

Q: Sarawak people can speak English?
A: *LOL* Are we talking alien language now?

Q: Got Astro?
A: Astro? No need lar, we have free satelite TV! Uncensorred one summore from all over the world. Why pay so much money for Astro?

Q: Water there clean or not?
A: Clean, crystal clear, we don’t need to spend money to install filter at all.

Q: I heard people there hunt for head. Really?
A: You not scare I chop off your head now?

Ok… Done. These are all I can think of. I’m sure you(East Malaysians) also encounter quite a lot. Take this tag if you want. The questions do not necessary be the same as mine, you can add in new ones. By the way, please track back as I want to read about what you write also.

From My Angle, Interesting

Dong Feng Po

Posted on June 12, 2007June 12, 2007 By sweet surrender 14 Comments on Dong Feng Po

Before we went to DiGi Fu-Yoh! Street Blast last Saturday, we had an early dinner at Dong Feng Po. It’s opened not long ago. Many people had went there before so we decided to try it out. It’s located behind EON Bank and DHL at Jalan Song Thian Cheok. By the way, Country Decastle already closed, no more in business, even signboard also gone.

Left: Dong Feng Po’s signboard.
Right: The interior. I think it’s very clean looking and with oriental touch.

Left: Some potted plants.
Right: Our drinks, Jasmine Milk Green Tea(RM2.50) and Passion Fruit Juice(RM2). The milk tea has nothing to be raved about and the passion fruit juice is just syrup.

By the way, I’m not so sure what are the exact name of the food, very long name -.-“

Left: Chopsticks & spoon and sweet & salted bean paste. Not bad. Very nice.
Right: Soup noodle in some kind of hot pot. You can choose to have tang-hoon instead of noodle. I opted for noodle. There’s one full egg in there and various “seafood” such as crabstick in there. No real seafood though. I got one meatball only in the soup πŸ˜› and some veggies also. Becareful when you eat this, it’s very hot. The presentation reminded me of a type of Japanese noodle. This dish costs RM5.

Left: Spoon & folk and some sort of melon soup.
Right: I think this is called pork leg rice. The taste is OK but there were still a bit of pig hair still attached to the skin. This is also RM5

This place is not so bad. The price range is OK since it’s air-conditioned. Definitely will go there for second time if there is chance.

My final post for DiGi Fu-Yoh! Street Blast. Backstage of course! What’s the use of VIP access if we don’t go to backstage? We went to backstage twice. Saw many of the artistes lingering outside the changing room, so we simply grabbed hold of anybody that we saw on stage to take photos with them πŸ˜› Better than nothing, it’s not everyday that you have the chance to do like this right?

Left: Liang for you!
Right: Urban Method!!

Left: The most precious photo! With Jason Lo!!! Thanks DiGi!!
Rigth: Guess who we met there? Georgette!!! She was there to cover the event for her column. She did blog about us and you can see Lo posing with Ducky!! She wanted to grab the opportunity to be one of the VIPs too but she gave it a go and let us have it. She’s also a member of Advertlets.

Quick! Want to have fun like us? Get your Fu-Yoh today.

I will have some videos to show you guys soon. For the time being, go get your FU-YOH~~~

p/s: I think I know where the yellow men went already. Must be kidnapped by Ruhaizad and mybloggo(sorry, don’t know your name) and brought them around Sabah for a holiday. Hehehe… Just joking… πŸ˜› They are actually the bloggers that were lucky to be picked for DiGi Fu-Yoh! Street Blast at Sabah on 2nd June.

Blogging since 2002. Anything before 2006 is no longer available. It is no longer on this server. Back then, I built my own blog and updated it using HTML. No database or anything. Only started blogging fully with a CMS in 2006. However, whatever was on the Internet will stay on the Internet. So... It should be still somewhere on the Internet. Then again... Why do you want to dig that far?
