Continue with Melaka trip post…
After walking so much under the sweltering sun, we decided to stop by Restoran Famosa Chicken Rice Ball ( 28-30 Jalan Hang Kasturi, Off Jonker Street, Melaka 75200, Malaysia) for a break at the same time to try out the most-talk-about chicken rice ball in Melaka. There’s quite a number of shops selling it, this is just one of them. I think this is the largest. If I’m not mistaken, they’re in the process of expanding as well.
Left: Nyonya Cendol (RM3.80), this one has better presentation than Jonker88. However, as I mentioned before in part 1, it’s really nothing, just gula melaka and the coconut milk while the cendol also became hard when it came in contact with the shaved ice.
Right: The famous chicken rice ball, actually it’s really nothing much also, it’s just the shape that makes it different from other chicken rice in Malaysia or Singapore. The texture is more chewy and dense than your normal rice. We ordered chicken rice ball(RM0.30/ball) and yam rice ball(RM).50/ball if I recall correctly).
Left: Steamed chicken (1/4-RM10, 1/2-RM18, whole-RM36). Ok… It tasted as it should, what else can I say? It’s not dry and succulent enough.
Right: Roasted pork (small-RM9, large-RM15), very salty -.-”
After that, we had a walk around. Saw many of this ice cream kiosk around but didn’t try it. I just couldn’t part with my RM3 for egg-size ice cream. Maybe you can try when you are there, they have various flavours such as durian(this is more expensive, RM4), peach, lemon, chocolate, and mango to name a few. I rather spend the RM3 on the cendol hahaha…
Jonker Walk. This is where you should be in Melaka on weekend nights. We were there on Friday, means the night market would be where we will be later at night.
You definitely cannot miss this. This is erected to celebrate 608th anniversary of Cheng Ho expedition.
Left: Hard Rock Cafe in Melaka. Frankly, I’ve never been into one before hahaha… Not even this one even though we were just outside of it. I guess it’s because of who you’re traveling with. Coincidentally, my travel partners all these while were not people who would go to such place.
Right: Melaka River. One thing I don’t understand, so many dead fish floating in the river, why? Polluted? I’m so glad our Sarawak River isn’t like that. Thankfully!
Ok… Here you go… The following photos will show you some views of Stadthuys.
The Christ Church Melaka building was under restoration when we were there. In Melaka, you definitely cannot miss seeing beautifully decorated rickshaws. Didn’t go on them, not necessary at all. Maybe I would go on them if I’m with my other half *LOL* but I won’t go on them with my parents, siblings or friends. Just not the right mood ;p Also… Really didn’t bother to spend this kind of money hahaha…
The roundabout in Melaka with sculptures of mouse-deer. For Malaysians, I’m sure you know how it relates to Melaka.
A popular account puts the Prince as out hunting one day and while resting under a tree, one of his dogs cornered a mouse-deer or ‘pelandok’.
The mouse-deer in its defence attacked the dog and even forced it into the river-water. Parameswara was so taken up by the courage of the mouse-deer that he decided on the spot to found a city on the ground he was sitting on. Thus, Melaka or Malacca was born. Many claimed that the prince took this name from the ‘Melaka’ tree that was shading him.

Left: On the way up to St.Paul’s Hill, this is Cheng Ho Gallery, it was under restoration too.
Right: Melaka Revolving Tower. You’ll get to see Melaka 360 degree. We didn’t go for it.
To be continued…
Hey, the chendo looks good. Most Kuching chendo are deteriorated to mere evaporated milk and brown sugar. Hardly any coconut milk or gula Melaka . Someone in Kuching should do real chendo.
Those in Spring and Boulevard Mall are horrible !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gou, huh? You go to shopping mall for the chendol? Cannot la… However, yes, I do agree that the overall standard has dropped so much!
Yes Irene, “Gou” is what I call my dog, you know mandarin for doggy.
Due to work, I only spend a few weeks in Kuching so I don’t know too many other place for chendol. One stall at “Song Ken Hai” is not too bed.
I love the Chendol at that coffee/dessert stall at Singapore T3 Basement food court .
Gou, yes, yes, I know… Song Kheng Hai still has good ones but portion decreased, price increase, ingredients decreased too. Oh! Next time I’m in Changi, I’ll try to locate it and try it out 😉 Won’t be anytime soon though…
