Chong Choon Cafe

Posted on October 21, 2010November 20, 2010 By sweet surrender No Comments on Chong Choon Cafe

Believe it or not? This is my very first time dining at Chong Choon Cafe at Jalan Abell. Quite easy to locate, consider the same row as Air Asia office.

Serious! I’m not kidding you. I’m not the kind that sit at the coffee shop, mostly we buy the food back. Besides that, it’s my first time eating the food there too! So called Kuchingite hahaha… I didn’t go there for the Sarawak Laksa though. I went there for my lunch 2 months ago. I was waiting for my IELTS speaking test so I went there with another candidate. Just found out the photos were in my phone and I forgot to transfer to my computer.

We did not have much time to enjoy and they’re closing. No mood to enjoy too. There were what we ordered:

Left: Kolo lau su fen, literally translate it as rat noodle (RM2.50). Don’t worry, it’s not made from rats! Another name for it is silver needle noodle. The noodle is red because it was added with char siew oil. Or usually if you want to have this, you can say “pang ang” (in Hokkien, it means you want it to be red). In fact you can ask for this in any kolo dish. No extra charge.

Right: Kolo mee (RM2.50). I’m not a fan of kolo mee, I usually don’t order kolo mee, I usually cannot finish one bowl on my own, just few mouths and I’ll be full. I wanted to order the wonton soup but it was out of stock. Nothing else to order, I ended up with kolomee. Luckily I managed to finish everything. Don’t ask me to give comment whether it’s good or not because I don’t really know what a good kolomee should be ;p At least this one did not torture me, I managed to finish it, quite slowly… Did not want to waste food.

Overall, nothing much I can comment about the place. However, it is a place that you can go if you want to experience the old school kopitiam in Kuching. It is one of the most popular kopitiams serving one of the best Sarawak Laksa in town but be sure to be there as early as you can because it’s too popular! You can also find humongous 3-layer Teh C Peng there.

Old Town White Coffee @ Hills

Posted on October 19, 2010October 19, 2010 By sweet surrender No Comments on Old Town White Coffee @ Hills

After so long, finally I spent my money at Old Town White Coffee @ Hills. Did not have a very pleasant experience at the one at airport. Went to the one at Hills because my friends had chosen this place. No choice.

We ordered 2 types of toasts. The one here is kaya and butter toast (single), RM1.80. The kaya and butter toast was not that bad but make sure you don’t wait till it’s cold to savour it. Best to eat it while it’s still hot but not easy because the air con there was quite cold and anything hot would turn cold in no time ;p The two sticks of butter was definitely very sinful but quite nice when the toast was still warm.

Left: Peanut butter toast (single), RM1.80. This one is quite disappointing. I can do better peanut butter toast.

Right: Lime juice(RM3.90), White Coffee Gao(RM3.90), Old Town Teh Tarik (RM3.90), Lemon Pepsi (RM4.50).

I personally think that the teh tarik is a bit too sweet for me. As for the size, it’s a bit small glass but that’s their standard.

Rapid Kuching

Once I posted about Rapid Kuching in Facebook and it got quite a lot of responses. Many people said that they’ve never heard of it or seen it. The fact is that, it’s around for quite a long time already. I saw it that time for the first time and my jaw almost dropped -.-”

Present to you… Rapid Kuching. GOSH! Saw it again today and happened that I was just behind it. I quickly took its photos.

Familiar? Really… How can they copy these very famous logos?!?! What people from the world will think of us when they see this on our street?

Where’s the originality? What were these people thinking when they designed or approved the logo?

Food Court at Boulevard

Posted on October 15, 2010October 15, 2010 By sweet surrender No Comments on Food Court at Boulevard

Can you believe it? This is my first time dining at the food court of Boulevard Shopping Mall in Kuching hahaha… Ordered the food at the Foochow stall and dessert stall.

Left: Seafood soup (RM5.50 inclusive of rice. No rice, RM4.50). The soup looked packed with ingredients but the fact was that the fish balls, fish cakes, and so on were sliced. It created an illusion that it’s a lot. Taste wise, not so bad.

Right: Xian chao ice dessert (don’t remember the price).

Saw people ordered this and the portion looked was so huge. So we ordered a plate too. Personally, I can share this with another small eater. This is known as Foochow wet fried noodle (RM5). The stall operator told us that there’s red wine in it. There’s a bit of red wine taste, wasn’t that strong. Overall taste, not sure how to describe the taste, at least it didn’t torture my taste palate.

Kitchen & Dining

Posted on October 15, 2010 By sweet surrender No Comments on Kitchen & Dining

Those who love to cook are surely people that are very particular about kitchen and dining. I’m not a person that is really into cooking but I do have a thing about kitchen appliances.

I get excited when I see toasters, ovens, blenders, bread maker, and so much more. Even the pots and pans even though I know that I’m likely won’t be using them much. I have no idea why.

Do you have an answer for that?
