I was still in bed and my home phone rang, woke up to answer and some courier company people said they got something to send over to my place. I thought what was that so important and it turned out to be a Platinum Credit Card by Standard Chartered.
How can that be?!? I’m not even qualified for a silver card don’t even say a platinum card! It was quite funny in way.
Never in my dream that I can even get a platinum card, never seen a real one or touch one before and now it’s right in front of me. They provide me with 2-year annual fee waiver and only RM6k credit limit. *LOL* Very funny. I don’t think I heard of such low credit limit for a platinum card.
The colour is nice and the word “Platinum” gives the card the classy appeal ;p.
I checked the bank’s site and found out that you must have at least an income of RM60,000 p.a. to qualified for it but I don’t even have that!

I don’t need those! *LOL* What the hell do I need those for?!?
It seems like banks nowadays are getting desperate. Everyone canceling their credit cards because the government is charging each primary card for RM50.
The banks are hoping that some people will start using those free cards sent to them as if they are getting free money to spend. Then later these people will not be able to pay the debts. There are many people like this but I’m not going to fall into the stupid trap.
What am I going to do with it? I’m not going to activate it and just let it terminate on its own after February as I’m given until the end of February to activate it.
Anyway, at least I finally got to see a real Platinum card and what’s more?!?! With my name printed on it! *LOL* I know some of my friends have been trying hard to get one but couldn’t even get one yet I get one without even doing anything. ;p
Bank nowadays not bank in the past..huhuh
Preppy GUy, sad case…
oh my lady!! you’re lucky!! i don’t even OWN a credit card~~
Jessica, don’t think it’s lucky, it’s more like being treated as one of the stupid fish to fall into the stupid trap.
haolian siiiiii

fuyooo!!! i would nvr get this. to get the normal cc when i was back home also so mahuan. lol cc not good ler, cash is best! 😀
yvy, yea… cash better, I don’t want credit card.
Heheh.. Im canceling my cards also. No point giving gov RM50 for nothing… but having a platinum!! Wow!
Cyril, yea… The rationale behind RM50 is just so lame, stupid decision. Hahaha… The platinum for show only, this proves that how desperate banks are nowadays. Such a pity.
Lol.. You can get the Platinum Mastercard even that your annual income is not qualified.. I have this card too, my credit limit is MYR45,000 ++ lol..
Hey hey, oh… means your account has at least 45,000 ;p
Stumbled upon your blog while googling about credit card companies.
Today I just got “reactivated” by MBF on a card that I canceled YEARS ago. Now it seems I owe them RM275 (RM225 annual fee + RM50 service charge fee).
Called them up, they said they’ll give me a new card and reverse the transactions. Why must they give me a new card? It seems they can’t reverse the transactions unless my card is valid and active. Which is entirely missing the point which is I canceled the freaking card years ago! Also, they can’t reverse transaction but can charge me?
Let’s see what Bank Negara will do, but I’m not putting my hopes up.
Epep, thanks for sharing and you did a correct thing, complain to Bank Negara. I have friends who at the end went to Bank Negara for all these non-sense and got their problems solved in a very fast manner, make sure you do CC a copy to the bank about your complain you made to Bank Negara. I’m sure yours will be fine too coz once the issue reach Bank Negara, those banks will likely to solve your issue a.s.a.p.
If you waited too long, send the complain again 🙂 All the best in getting this issue solved.
Standard chartered is getting more desperate, I applied for my credit card without any proof of income. The bank officer said they will get my income details from bank negara. I already have pretty high credit limit with my current cards and they doubled that figure. That’s really insane and I’m not comfortable carrying a card with such high limit with me.
WB, agree, desperate indeed!
WB,
Im having the same dilemma with u. I applied stan chart credit card, and I have got it today. The credit limit is bout 4x of my current limit. I dun feel comfortable for having such a high limit as well.
Isabella, wow… That’s really desperate of them. Gosh… Must be because many people no longer plan to have many cards because of the RM50 annual tax from the government, so they want us to use their card with higher limit so that that we don’t have to own more than one card. -.-“
I have SCB Platinum Mastercard for many years now. Credit limit was RM60k, then I asked for reduction to RM30k because I don’t need the high credit limit. Every year I threaten to cancel the card unless if they waive the RM300 annual fee (it used to be RM415 per annum).
Jimmy, annual fee… It’s the same for any bank and any card. Every year have to threat them for it LOL
Hi , i found ur post in internet, juz wan to ask, how u cancel this card ? i try called to cancel, they not allow me to cancel and said wan to charge me govt tax rm50 cos i havent hold the card till 1 year, thanks
Ally,it was so many years ago. Some more I never activate it so they cannot charge me anything. I did not even use it at all. If you had activated it then you will have to wait for a year if you don’t want to get charged. Besides, you never apply for it and they send it to you which is wrong. If that is the case, you should be firm and tell them that provided if you never activate your card.
