Dim Sum @ Imperial Duck

Posted on September 23, 2009 By sweet surrender No Comments on Dim Sum @ Imperial Duck

Imperials Duck… Went there twice only. This time went there for brunch with my aunt and sis on a Sunday morning, it happened few weeks back aka the week we came back from Singapore. That was exactly one month ago hehehe… Only update it now because there were so many things to update.

My sis kept saying that she wanted to eat dim sum in Singapore but we didn’t manage to try any because of aih… Don’t want mention anymore. So my aunt suggested that we went to have dim sum when we got back to Kuching. After discussing on which place to go for dim sum, we ended up at Imperial Duck. Reason? *shrug* No reason at all. One of the nearest place from our house I guess…

Mind you, I’m not a dim sum fan and have very limited knowledge on what a good dim sum should be like ;p So I can only judge it based on my own standard.

Right: “Si-Chuan” Dumpling(RM3 / 4 pieces), thought it will be very spicy but not spicy at all.

Left: Steamed Pork Ribs(RM2.40), this is not bad, didn’t get the meat stucked in between my teeth and the meat was easily separated from the bone.

Right: Steamed Chicken Feet(RM2.40), I love chicken feet, I don’t care how it’s cooked as long that it’s chicken feet hahaha… Do you know that chicken feet are rich in collagen (read it somewhere but don’t remember where), in other words it’s good for your skin! ;p

Left: “Har Kao”(RM4.50 / 3 pieces), the skin is a bit tough and dry.

Right: Steamed Pork Dumpling(RM4.50), I’m quite disappointed with this, I was expecting more soup in there.

Left: Egg Yolk Bun(RM3 / 2 pieces), don’t you think they are cute? Not bad for this, if not mistaken the filling was made from salted egg yolk and custard.

Overall, I think the dim sum is pretty OK. What do you expect from someone that only had proper dim sum meal 2 times in her entire life? (exclude the usual pao and sio bee that can be found easily at coffee shops) *LOL*

Karaoke @ K11

Posted on September 22, 2009September 23, 2009 By sweet surrender 6 Comments on Karaoke @ K11

K11 is one of the latest karaoke in town, located just opposite Hong Leong Bank at Pending. It’s facing the main road. Bank Rakyat is just at the next block. Behind is Crown Square. There are quite a number of rooms and all of them are pretty big.

Managed to steal a peek on some of rooms when I got lost ;p I lost my way few times. I somehow kept getting confused on my direction after each toilet break *LOL*

We were assigned to “Hong Kong” room which could fit more than 8 people. Usually other karaoke named their rooms with number but this one with name of various cities in the world such as Shanghai, Dubai, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur and etc. The wall poster was different in every room.

The system was totally different from other karaokes that I’ve been to. It’s a bit too complex for me hehehe… The user interface was so fancy. I didn’t like how the list is being displayed. We had problem figured out how the arrangement of the singers and the songs.

As for the song selections, it seemed a lot compare to other places. It seemed… I’m not so sure. At least some songs that I couldn’t find in other places, I found it here.

We took the 12pm-8pm slot.
Weekend and public holiday = RM20/person, including 2 drinks/person.
Weekdays 12pm-8pm = RM18/person, including 2 drinks/person.

If you ordered drinks that can be found in tin, they will give you two tins instead of two glasses which the two glasses usually only have less than 2 tins of drink.

The sound system wasn’t really good for my standard. The microphones were not wireless. Oh… They use projector instead of LCD.

If you want to go, you can make your reservation by calling 082-332211.

I can’t wait for the karaoke at tHe Spring to open!! I hope the place will be a no smoking place. However, do you think it’s possible? Hmm…

Raya Visiting 2009

Posted on September 21, 2009September 21, 2009 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Raya Visiting 2009

Yesterday I went to one of my classmates’ house with my classmates for Raya visiting. Let’s see the food we had yesterday.

Left: Settled our lunch at the same time before going to sing karaoke ;p

Right: A type of muruku that we always have in class.

Some tidbits, cuttlefish and another type of muruku.

Some cookies, butter cookies(I think…) and kueh mangkit(made from sago).

Left: Cheese cookies.

Right: Tiers of kuih lapis Sarawak. Haven’t refill yet. If I’m not mistaken, those colourful ones with various patterns or motifs are known as kuih/kek lapis Sarawak or kuih/kek batik Sarawak.

Done the refillng…

So colourful! Can you see how many types? No prize though…

Left: Before having our lunch. Still sober hahaha…

Right: That’s us, after consuming too much sugar ;p

Ho Chiak Bak Kut Teh

Posted on September 19, 2009 By sweet surrender 6 Comments on Ho Chiak Bak Kut Teh

This happened more than a month ago ;p Decided to try out Ho Chiak Bak Kut Teh, located just opposite Chung Hua Primary School No.3.

They claimed that this bak kut teh is original recipe from Klang. Hmm… No idea, I had bak kut teh at Klang before but the taste wasn’t the same. I know… I know… Every bak kut shop has their own recipe, so I am no judge to say it’s original or otherwise, it’s personal preference.

The rice wasn’t plain rice. It’s garlic rice(RM1).

Left: Bak kut teh (RM6).
Right: Bak kut teh (RM6), the dry type.

Our verdict? Hmm… It’s just bak kut teh. Nothing much to rave about, it’s edible hahaha…

Juice Bar & Nyonya Food @ Food Bazaar, tHe Spring

Posted on September 18, 2009August 26, 2010 By sweet surrender 2 Comments on Juice Bar & Nyonya Food @ Food Bazaar, tHe Spring

Went to have lunch at Food Bazaar, tHe Spring on Monday with my sis. Actually was asked to go over and happened that we need to buy some stuffs there and I have something to discuss so I agreed to it.

The newly set up juice bar by The Jooz Artists! Want something healthy? Why don’t try this out. We tried 3 types of juices but you only see 2 here coz I forgot to take the photo of another drink.

The one on the left is dragon fruit mix with another 2 fruits (I only remember lime was added hehehe…). It’s sourish and refreshing enough however it took me a bit of time to get used to the taste.

The one on the right is mango juice mix with 1 type of fruit. The mango is from Ming Kiong Garden, the famous mango garden in Kuching. The mango is indeed good.

The other one we had (not in the picture) was lychee+apple. Sweet and sour, quite refreshing too.

The fruit juice starts at RM3 and you can mix various fruits for your juice. Extra charge applies.

Only 2 of us yet we had 3 cups of ice blended fruit juice. WAH! You can imagine that hahaha… I visited almost every floor of the toilet at tHe Spring *LOL* Had lots of vitamin C that day, so healthy!

The nyonya stall is relocated to the other corner. We had nyonya food that day. Craving for home cook food, you can have your fix here. The food changes everyday, so do not expect to get what you see here when you are there.

You only need to add RM1(the price should be still the same as what I had last time hehehe… Forgot to ask) for the rice and this is not your normal plain white rice(obviously ;p). This rice is not cheap in the market.

Left: Kacangma, I was told there’s no water added but pure wine. It’s my first time having pure wine kacangma, not bad, it didn’t make me drunk *LOL*

Right: Vegetable curry, I quite like this. The green pieces are mani chai, the yellowish pieces are pumpkin and the orange coloured pieces are sweet potato(if I’m not mistaken ;p or is it carrot?)

Left: Lamb rendang, not bad.

Right: Iban brinjal aka la kia kio fish. I’m not really into fish cook in soup but I love the brinjal a lot!

Left: Kangkong with garlic. We always cook our kangkong this way at home.

Right: One of the Nyonya kuehs available there. This is steamed tapioca with coconut.

Left: If I’m not mistaken, this is sago kueh.

Right: Onde-onde aka ondeh-ondeh.

The kuehs are sweet but the sweetness is not the sugary of sweetness. I’m not really into sweet things but the sweetness here is acceptable to me. If I’m not mistaken, they’re selling at 80 sen per piece.

CRAP! I just had my dinner and now I’m hungry again -.-“
