Called Empress about my camera, Canon Digital Ixus i Zoom, they said that I needed RM200+ to repair because of the lens cable problem. I decided not to get it repaired, I would rather buy a new one. I had set my target already, I’ll get a new camera soon in August when PC fair is here. It will be a lower range one, below RM1K, a DIGITAL IXUS 80 IS. I go for this because I just got 2 new batteries for my currently dying camera, if not then it would be wasted 😛 It’s another Canon because I love the picture quality even though the camera durability isn’t that good especially the IXUS model.
So, I’m going to spend less money on a compact digital camera now, next time if there’s problem with it, it won’t be so painful. Then the rest of the money, I’m saving them for a DSLR, Canon 450D!! 😛 Waiting for the price to drop further, no hurry hehehe… I don’t mind if someone willing to sponsor me or give me as a birthday gift 😛 Hehehe…
It’s time to say goodbye to this camera that cost me about RM1300+, bought it from KL at Low Yat in January 2006. Was supposed to buy this with my own money but my dad said I didn’t have to pay him the money back. In other word, he bought this camera for me. At the beginging of my usage, it posed a lot of problems and I had to send it in and out of Canon to get the problems fixed because I’m jinxed!! Hahaha…
It’s been with me for 2 and a half years. I had taken more than 82,000+ photos and videos(according to my memory card as I’m using the continous file numbering and it started at 100-0001, now is 182-xxxx, almost 83,000) with it. This camera had followed me to KL, Miri, Borneo Highlands, Damai Beach, Camp Permai, various events in Kuching, on MAS, on Air Asia, various eating establishments, lots of weddings, outing with friends and everywhere I went. Have to mention also the test shoots that Canon did when checking this camera when I sent it to Canon several times in the first few months of usage. Almost all of the photos you see in my blog before July 2008 were taken with this camera, I didn’t do much editting except resizing, that’s why I prefer Canon. You can see some selected photos here
My camera is always with me whenever I’m out and about, it’s easy to bring around because it’s small and compact which I love. Consider me a heavy user, I camwhored a lot with it also hahaha… Now… It has come to the end of its life.
Frankly 82,000+ photos and videos in 2 and half years is a bit too little and too short of lifespan don’t you think? If only it could last longer. At least it lasted more than 1 year longer than my previous first generation Canon Ixus that was bought from Singapore. I’m a heavy IXUS user for almost 4 years and still going to be one. The new one will be my third IXUS. Therefore, I’m in a better position to judge the durability of the camera, I admit that sometimes I did drop my camera but it shouldn’t be much of a problem as other brands are more durable judging from how my friends were using them, they were “clumsier” than me but their cameras lasted longer than mine.
I have friends that are using the IXUS also and all of them have to change camera after one year or 2 years plus later. Some of them are not heavy user like me and some of them are equally heavy user like me. No matter how’s the usage, all could only used for less than 3 years. This is something to take note of.
I hope Canon can make more durable compact digital cameras, especially the IXUS because many cameras out there now can withstand drop of at least 3 feet or shock, I don’t see why Canon cannot incorporate this feature in their cameras. If they can incorporate this feature, I can tell you I’m going to ENDORSE CANON! *LOL* As if I’m some sort of celebrity 😛 The sales of the camera will surely be better because it’s really worth the money with the design, picture quality and the durability. Hahaha… Other than that I have no complain.
The E18 error, oh well… Who knows there’s a miracle that it healed on its own just like what the other owners with this problem *LOL*
