What’s New in Kuching?

Posted on July 8, 2013July 12, 2013 By sweet surrender 7 Comments on What’s New in Kuching?

What’s new after almost 2 years of being away from Kuching? In no particular order as I don’t remember which came first but I know which is the latest hahaha…

The latest, Summer Mall. Went there yesterday. My advice, don’t go for the time being if you are blardy sensitive towards dust. I came back with whole face of rashes, and itchy nose -.-” Also, I removed my makeup and the cotton was black. *GULP* Super duper dusty. Not really completed, still a lot of work need to be done. It’s extremely far away from the city, in the middle of nowhere, guess it’s meant for people living at that area than those living in the urban areas. This is likely to be my first and last time there. It’s futher than going to the airport. Even Boulevard is nearer.

Managed to visit this place last year October when I was back for 3 weeks but didn’t take any photos. I don’t have the latest photo of the place but it’s much more alive and happening now likely due to the cinema and because it’s still consider new. Kuching people have new place (GSC) to watch movie too and the ticket is much cheaper than MBO. Metrojaya is located here, things are pretty expensive but I’m likely to shop here only when there’s sales on ;p.

Plaza Merdeka isn’t very bad. It has many foreign brands but I am not likely to shop there. I won’t name the shops but some brands are really cheap brands overseas yet it’s treated as branded here in SE Asia. Let’s just put it this way, I bought those brands before in Australia/NZ and my sister bought them in UK. It’s blardy cheap in Australia/NZ and UK but it’s so expensive here.

Even though after conversion, Malaysia is selling them cheaper, it’s still not worth it to spend such money to buy things with such quality. I don’t mind spending AUD20 (almost RM70 here in Malaysia) to buy the exact same garment in Australia when I earn AUD. However, in Malaysia, I am not willing to spend RM55+ to buy that exact same one here as it’s just too expensive unless it’s RM20. I can get much better quality garment with RM50+ from other shops. You get my drift?

Kuching Sentral is Kuching’s regional long-distance bus terminal but it’s also a place to shop. During the weekend, it’s quite happening here but I’m not sure about weekdays. Seldom come here too nothing fancy me here. It’s just a stone throw away from KIA.

Oh! There’s another one, near tHe Spring known as ST3. Sorry to say that, it’s pretty much dead, seems like a failure. It’s not big, very small one, the highlight is the apartment there I guess.

There you go, my take on the major shopping places in Kuching.

Hi Irene. In your absence Kuching has suddenly become shopping centre central !

There are so many shopping centres now – I wonder where all the shoppers come from. I think Merdeka Plaza is quite nice. Spring is still good. CityOne is quite messy. Summer Mall should be quite nice when it is finished.

Many go into debt to buy junks they don’t need.
Many opened stores selling junks that no one really want.
Sad to say, there will be pains all over if we are not careful.

Embrace yourself, more (malls) is coming.

I agreed with you on the brand/baju thing.
Many people buy it because it’s an oversea brand. 😐

I personally find the thing is bad (quality).

Nowadays, I go for local/Asean brands.

kucing dengan tikus, I haven’t been buying clothes in Malaysia’s shops for years *LOL* Bought online more or my sis got them for me from UK.

ahlost, can go now I guess, the major shops are opened already but I don’t think I will go again unless I’m not the one driving.

Only started blogging fully with a CMS in 2006. However, whatever was on the Internet will stay on the Internet. So... It should be still somewhere on the Internet. Then again... Why do you want to dig that far?
