I’m closing this comment because I’m sure it will turn into a debate and don’t have such energy to debate with you. Also, I’m sure it will go off topic until talking about who you should vote. This is a very neutral post. Just my view on why you should exercise your responsibility as a citizen.
Why I want to vote when I know the BN will sure win?
Voting is your responsibility. You know there are many countries that don’t have this kind of system and their citizens are hoping that they have the chance to do so. You are given the chance and you should do so. It doesn’t matter which party you are voting. If you like this, you vote this; if you like that, you vote that; if you don’t like anyone of them, just cast a spoilt vote! It’s as simple as that.
Imagine if everyone thinks that way, no one is going out to vote, sooner or later this special right that only few countries are enjoying will be gone. What’s the point of having it when no one wants to vote right? By that time, it’s too late.
I would rather save my time and energy to go out and cast a spoilt vote?
It’s different. This is the opportunity to make yourself heard. It matters to the contesting parties and of course the government.
Let’s say you like this party, you want them to win but they didn’t win. To them, your vote is their strength, it will let them know that there are people supporting them. Even though they might be losing again and again, at least they can know from the result whether their supporters are increasing or declining. This will ensure that they work harder to win in the next round.
As for the winning party, they can use that to judge whether their supporters have increase or decline. With this, they will know that they must do something to ensure that they will continue to win in the next round.
If you don’t like any of them because they are all useless and are a bunch of morons/clowns/monkeys, just cast a spoilt vote and from the spoilt votes, the competiting parties will know that all of them are not welcomed and hated. You will be heard! This means you think they are all suckers! None of them deserve a vote from you. They will all try to buck up and make sure that they get your vote next time. I’m sure you will say that spoilt vote will only be something very minor, no one cares. WRONG! It’s because you didn’t vote, imagine if all of you that are not supporting any party and casted a spoilt vote, it will be a lot.
I know many people my age are not registered yet because they don’t see the point of doing so. Being part of the campaigning teams for the passed 3 elections, I had came across a lot and noticed that we don’t have much young voters, most of them are above 30. Also while being part of the team, I also found that you-know-which-organisation is really *put whatever word you want*. Why?
1. The deads are still in the system! Aren’t they supposed to clean up their system from time to time?
2. Even the underage records are in there! How can!?!?
3. Some people are automatically registered as voter without them knowing it!
4. Some people have been voting for years and out of sudden their record went missing in the system! They won’t be able to vote in the coming election, they need to re-register.
5. We had submitted a huge number of applications to be registered as voters in the previous election and guess what!??! This whole batch, majority of them were not in the system! They are not in! They are all submitted at the same time and all the documents needed were submitted together and now where are their names?!?! All these people wanted to vote and got no chance, you might have the chance but you don’t utilise it.
Voting in Malaysia is very peaceful, there’s nothing like what you see in some countries where weapons flying around. You just go to your polling station, find your name(you can do it now from the Internet days before the election day, or even SMS or even some campaign workers can help you find out all the details so that you won’t go to the wrong station and make a wild goose chase. Even if you don’t find them before election, they have computer there to check your name instead of using the old way for flipping the huge record of voters but you might have to go on a wild goose chase as that might not be your polling station), you don’t need to wait for long, go in and cast your vote. As simple as that.
That’s all I can say. Did you know that you don’t exercise your voting right is something against the law? You might be fined or jailed or both. This law might not be fully exercised as we never heard of it or there are isolated cases. In case one day it happened that they are going to put it to work in full force, then I can only wish you luck.
